Child Trafficking: Four teenagers rescued in Anambra

The intervention of the Anambra State Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Ify Obinabo has foiled the trafficking of four underage girls in the state.

The victims, who are between the ages of 13 and 15, are indigenes of Akwa Ibom State.

The teenagers have been transferred to Agbor, Delta State, before been dropped at a motor park in Anambra State, where they would be moved another destination.

Fortunately, the victims were rescued and the suspect arrested at the motor park.

The spokesperson to the commissioner, Chidimma Ikeanyionwu, said the operation was conducted on Thursday night with aid of thw Anambra State Police Command.

She said the commissioner upon learning about the incident, enlisted the service of security operatives in order to bring the culprit to book.

The suspect is currently standing trial on charges bordering on Children, Sexual and Gender Based Violence before a Magistrate court in Awka.

The commissioner disclosed that the state government won’t condone trafficking.

Obinabo said, “The Prof. Chukwuma Soludo-led administration will not leave any stone unturned in making sure that traffickers are dealt with according to the stipulations of the law urging members of the state to always report any suspicious activity within their area.”

The teenagers maintained that about five different men do have carnal knowledge of them daily, claiming that the men do pay the sum of N1,000 to N2,000 directly to the said suspect, Madam Success.

They said Madam Success only gives them N400 everyday for feeding, also stating that their cleavage-revealing wears were bought from the proceeds.

The girls confessed that several attempts to escape, when voided were greeted by severe penalty.
