Ahead of the 2023 general elections, Kwara House of Assembly candidate for Kaiama constituency under the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, together with other members of the party on Sunday joined the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Mohammed Babangida dumped the newly floated party alongside local government Vice-chairman, Secretary, Women leader, and all the ward chairmen to join the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state.
The decampees were received by the Director General for the PDP Governorship Campaign Council, Prof Ali Ahmad.
Babangida said the party lacks internal unity poor structure necessitated his defection to the PDP.
He stated that only PDP has the capacity to dislodge the AbdulRahman-led administration for allegedly neglecting and inflicting sufferings on Kwarans.
He maintained, “As grassroots politicians, we have searched around for the best alternative party that can address the yearnings of our people, particularly those of us that APC reign has brought about underdevelopment, neglect, sufferings, and hardship on us as people that lives in the rural areas. We were all in the NNPP to actualize this, but unfortunately, the party has proved to lack the grounded structure needed for any serious political party to win an election.
“To show you that the NNPP has no traceable structure to win an election in Kaiama local government, I am here with my local government Vice-chairman, the women leader, the secretary among other executives, the ward chairmen and their excos in Kaiama to announce our intention to join the next ruling party by the special grace of God Almighty in Kwara and Nigeria at large.
“We believed that as one of the food baskets in the country particularly in Kwara, Kaiama local government will be given adequate attention to better produce optimally. It is quite unfortunate that Kaiama was neglected and forgotten by the incumbent APC govt both at the federal and state levels,” the defectors said.
He, therefore, gave assurance that the defectors would work to ensure all candidates of the PDP emerged in the forthcoming general elections.
“Today, by the special grace of God Almighty, we are here to assure the PDP of our unwavering support as we promise to mobilize every needed resource to win all the seats contested for at the February and March polls.”
