2023 Womens’ World Cup: Super Falcons defeat Australia

It was an exhilarating moment for Nigeria supporters at the Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane, Australia on Thursday afternoon as the Super Falcons walloped Australia on their home soil.

The Nigeria female team defeated their rival by 2-3 in front of 6645 spectators at the 2023 Women World Cup in Australia.

Emily Van Egmond opened the scoring chart for the Australian women team in the 46 minutes before Nigeria playmaker, Uchenna Kanu gave a swift response just five minutes after.

Thanks to Barcelona forward, Asisat Oshoala who came from the bench after replacing Uchenna Kanu in the 64 minutes to put Nigerian team ahead just one minute after her introduction.

Oshoala proved why she deserves a starting berth as she put another goal behind the Australian goalkeeper in the 72nd minute.

After several minutes of continued strike to avert the impending defeat, Manchester City Central defender, Alannah Kennedy registered her name on the score sheet, putting the scoreline at 2-3 ten minutes after the regular time.

After the round two match, Nigeria now stand top of Group B table with four points.

Canada, after defeating Ireland 2-0 on Wednesday also have four points, queuing behind Nigeria in the group.
