Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has ratified the payment of subsidy for the 2024 Basic Education Certificate Examination, BECE for students in public schools in the state.
A total of 55,150 candidates will be sitting the exams in the state.
According to a statement signed by the press secretary of the State Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, Peter Amogbonjaye, all candidates in public schools will pay N2,500 only, the same amount charged last year – instead of N5,000.
The govt said the fee remains despite inflation and the rising cost of conducting the examination.
The release added that the subsidy is part of the administration’s way of supporting the students and their parents and reducing the dropout rate among students from indigent family backgrounds in the state.
The release furthered that the subsidies would capture all the candidates that will sit this year 2024 BECE.
The statement, therefore, issued a stern warning to public officials against charging unauthorised fees from parents, noting any erring official would be subjected to severe disciplinary action.
