Following the team loss to Shooting Star Football Club on Sunday afternoon, players of Kwara United Football Club have apologised to the state government, the management of the team and Kwarans.
The Ilorin-based club last their Matchday 12 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) encounter to Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) today, at the Akure Township Stadium, after Joshua Akpan scored 90+4 minute winner for the 3SC.
With the defeat, the Harmony Boys have suffered their second home defeat of the season.
Kwara United has so far garnered 12 points from 12 matches, currently standing in the eight position in the NPFL log.
The team’s Captain, Bamidele Aiyenugba, apologised to the government, the management, Supporters, Fans and stakeholders on the loss.
“We had no choice than to apologise for losing this all-important match against Shooting Stars Sports Club, especially considering our position on the table.
“On behalf of the players, I will want to apologise to the state government, and also pledge to make up for the lackadaisical display, which ended in our second home defeat of the season.
“We equally want to apologise to the management, led by our Chairman, Kumbi Titiloye. They have done more than enough in terms of welfare and motivation. We sincerely apologise and will henceforth return to winning ways.
The former Bnei Yehuda goalkeeper, however, motivated the players to let the defeat be in the past and face upcoming fixtures with high spirit in order to meet the target set for the season.
Kwara United Football Club started the 2022/2023 Abridged NPFL season in Ibadan, following the ongoing regrassing of the pitch of the Main-Bowl of the Kwara State Stadium Complex, and moved to Akure, at the end of the first round.
