Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has apologized for a previous statement where he suggested that Christians who do not pay tithes might not make it to heaven.

In a recent address to his congregation, which has circulated online, Adeboye referred to his earlier statement as a “mistake.” Speaking at the ongoing RCCG Youth Convention at Redemption Camp, he clarified that the Bible emphasizes peace and holiness as the true requirements for entering heaven.

“I apologize for saying, ‘If you don’t pay tithe, you might not make it to heaven.’ That’s wrong, and it’s not in the Bible. The Bible says, ‘Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see God,'” Adeboye said.

He further explained that it’s possible to be both right and wrong simultaneously, drawing from his scientific background to illustrate how long-held beliefs, like the idea that light travels in a straight line, were later proven incorrect. Adeboye added that tithing should not be restricted to 10%, suggesting that believers could go beyond this, and hinted that he would provide more insight on the topic in the future.
