The Super Eagles of Nigeria has defeated the Cameroon national team 2- 0 in the ongoing 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast after Lookman Ademola scored a brace.
Thanks to Victor Osimhen, who dispossessed a Cameroonian defender to set up Atlanta forward, Lookman Ademola in the 36th minute to put Nigeria up after defender Semi Ajayi’s 12th minute was disqualified.
The indomitable Lions looked to find an equaliser after launching several deadly attacks but received another heartbreak when Fulham defender Calvin Bassey assisted Lookman Ademola to double Super Eagles’ lead against Rigobert Song’s team exactly after 90 minutes of play.
With this victory, the Indomitable Lions had lost to the Super Eagles thirteen times in competitive matches.
The TotalEnergies Man of the Match said, “Wow, we’re so happy to qualify for the quarter-finals.
“The more we play together, the more fluid we become. I’m standing here now, but this award reflects the whole team’s performance,” the Atalanta player said after the win against Cameroon.
Lookman commended the support from the Nigerian fans in the stands for giving the team the push to defeat the Cameroonians.
“I love this atmosphere. It’s incredible. Tonight, our fans pushed us to the end because this was Cameroon, and when you wear the Super Eagles shirt, some games resonate more than others,” he said.
The Atalanta player maintained that the team would prepare for the encounter against Angola on Friday in Abidjan.
“Angola is a good team. We’ll analyse them and prepare.
“The further you go, the tougher it gets. So, we’ll take it game by game,” he said.
