The Lagos State Police Command has eventually apprehended, the embattled afrobeats musician, Seun Kuti, for physical assaulting a Police Officer at the popular Mainland Bridge in Lagos State.
The, however, gave assurance that the ongoing investigations into Seun Kuti assault case will be “professional detailed and transparent”.
The force also maintained that it would employ all available avenues to ensure justice is served appropriately in the case.
The Lagos State Police Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin said in a press statement on his Twitter handle that Seun has been arrested in the wee hours of Monday, May 15, 2023, as he submitted himself at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters, Ikeja, alongside his legal counsel and family members.
The release stated; “SERIOUS ASSAULT ON POLICE OFFICER: SEUN KUTI TURNS SELF IN. Afrobeats musician, Seun Kuti, in the early hours of today turned himself in at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters, Ikeja, in company of his lawyer and family representative. He has been placed under arrest in line with the law.
“The Command appreciates the public for their concern and assures that the ongoing investigation will be detailed, transparent, professionally pursued; and justice will be manifestly served for all parties involved.
The police spokesperson said “Afrobeat musician, Seun Kuti, in the early hours of today turned himself in at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters, Ikeja, in company of his lawyer and family representative.”
The police spokesperson also stated that “He has been placed under arrest in line with the law.”
It could be recalled that Seun Kuti was seen in a video slapped a yet to be ascertained indentified police officer in Lagos State.
The incident caused series of reactions among social media users as the son of the late afrobeats maestro, Fela Anikulapo Kuti bragged about how he had slapped many policemen in the past.
The City Gazette reported that the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, had ordered the arrest of Seun after a video clip of the musician assaulting a policeman emerged on the internet.
