A northern association under the aegis of the Arewa Youths Consultative Forum (AYCF) has highlighted five key areas where the President Tinubu-led Federal Govenment needs to improve for national development.
National President of the Arewa youth group, Yerima Shettima, issued this advice on Tuesday.
He eulogized the president for recently suspending some of the high-ranking government officials and naming Nuhu Ribadu as the National Security Adviser (NSA).
“Making Ribadu his NSA was a good thing because he is very principled and does not tolerate corruption, not because he was a former EFCC Chairman, but because he’s a no-nonsense person. So, I’m sure we are progressing in the area of insecurity,” he said.
Express his view on corruption, Shettima maintained that Tinubu’s actions since taking over from former President Muhammadu Buhari show challenging some powerful individuals in the country with the sacking of Godwin Emefiele and Abdulrasheed Bawa.
He furthered that people like Hadi Sirika, who was the former aviation minister, must also face probe over allegation of scam in the Nigeria Air project.
On the economy, Shettima charged President Tinubu to end states’ over-dependence on federal allocation, maintaining that they should be made to pay taxes.
“Though our economy is very bad, the centre can’t hold. State governors should go back to their state and begin to harness their resources,” he said.
The AYCF president also admonished the President to grow the economy by creating enabling environment for agriculture and ensuring the sector proper attention to survive.
He, however, advised Tinubu to order the reopening of the land borders for imports and exports and ensure contrabands are not allowed access into the country with the Customs and Immigration diligently doing their jobs effectively.
There have been calls from different parts of the country that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu should open up the land boarders closed by former President Muhammadu Buhari.
