Former Niger Delta militant leader Asari Dokubo has accused President Tinubu of betrayal and neglect.

In a viral video on social media, Asari claimed that Tinubu had let him down after he supported his candidacy in the 2023 presidential elections.

He alleged that he spent his own money campaigning for Tinubu, only to be abandoned afterward.

Dokubo expressed his intention to form an alliance with the Northern region and distance himself from Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He recalled urging Nigerians to hold him accountable if Tinubu failed as president.

“I apologize to our fathers for not being wrong in forming an alliance with the North. As young men, we will now begin that same alliance,” he stated. “From today, I will work to form an alliance with the North. President Tinubu betrayed me after I emptied my bank account campaigning for him. The Tinubu I know now is not the Tinubu I used to know. We will convey the message that only the Northerners can work with the Ijaw people.”

He continued, “We can’t work with the Yoruba; they have betrayed us. We risked our lives voting and doing everything, and this is what we get?”

Recall that in 2023, Dokubo spoke in a glowing term about his long-standing relationship with Tinubu, asserting that he was not seeking a federal appointment. “I am not a regular politician; I am just a friend of Bola Ahmed Tinubu. I am not looking for an appointment, but those seeking appointments made sacrifices and are looking to me to ensure their efforts are not in vain,” he stated.

During a visit to former presidential aspirant Tein Jack-Rich, Dokubo reiterated that his friendship with Tinubu dates back to the early 1990s, expressing complete faith in the President’s leadership qualities and commitment to equity and justice.

“I will not do anything to cause the President pain, and those around me can rest assured that I am a great supporter of the President,” he had said.
