Europa League: Atalanta sinks Liverpool at Anfield

After enduring a 2-2 draw at Old Trafford against Manchester United last Sunday in the Premier League, Liverpool seemed to have gone from frying pan to fire as they bowed to Atalanta at home.

The sixth-place Italian club have humiliated Liverpool in the quarters final first leg of Europa League at Anfield on Thursday night by 3-0.

The duo of Gianluca Scamacca and Davide Zappacosta rained in three goals to punish their hosts in what seemed to be a free walk to the next round of competition.

The Reds’ awkward performance tonight is a stark indication that they are not challenging for European honours this term as they allowed their Italian visitors to overrun their defence line with absolute ease.

Klopp’s attacking line was not sharp enough to unlock Atalanta’s backline throughout 90 minutes.

Liverpool defence has come under severe criticism, following a lack of clean sheet in their last eight games.

The Merseyside club has conceded 13 goals in their last eight games across all competitions.

After this victory, the serie A club will need to give a good fight when they play Jurgen Klop’s team at home next Thursday to secure a ticket for the next round of the tournament.
