Garba Shehu, a Media Aide to the immediate past president, Muhammadu Buhari on Monday disclosed that the former president refused to remove fuel subsidy to enable Bola Ahmed Tinubu win presidential election.

The City Gazette recalls that Tinubu was the presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in the last general elections.

Shehu made this revelation via his official Twitter account on Monday.

He furthered that need for the APC to retain the presidency informed Buhari’s insistence not to remove hajj/Christian pilgrim subsidy among others.

Shehu continued that he had often time maintained a tight lip on “repeated questions on the removal in Nigeria of subsidies on Premium Motor Spirit, PMS and that arising from the dual rates of the Naira in the Central Bank and the parallel market: Why did Buhari “fail” to do these?

He stressed that the party is in the best position proffer answers to those recurring questions on subsidy related matters, noting that failure to do so forced him to open up.

Shehu, however, commended the Tinubu-led Federal Govenment for removing fuel subsidy and unifying the currency at the right time.
