Communal clash claims 10 lives in Anambra

10 villagers have been reported dead on Monday, February 6 in a prolonged communal fight between Anaku and Omor communities in Ayamelum Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The reason for the communal clash remained unknown as at the time of filing this report, but sources said there have been subsisting crisis between the two communities in the recent past.

A resident of the community confirmed that some of the village heads address the newsmen on this unfortunate incident soon.

The State Police Spokesperson, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, revealed that a joint team of police and military had been deployed around the communities to ensure outright peace and order.

“I don’t have any brief on it yet, but in the early hours of today 6/2/2023, the Command received a distress call of alleged sounds of gunshots within the community of Omor and Anaku, Ayamelum LGA.

“There has been heavy deployment of a joint task force team which comprises Police and military. The situation is being monitored.

“Further development shall be communicated, please.”
