The Police Command in Plateau maintained that it has rescued the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Pankshin, SP Nwapi Augustus, who was kidnapped by unknown gunmen in the state.

The spokesperson for the command, DSP Alfred Alabo, made this announcement in a statement issued on Sunday in Jos.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on January 11 had reported that gunmen abducted the DPO and took him to a remote destination.

Alabo said to rescue the officer who was kidnapped at about 8.30 p.m. on Jan. 11, the command, alongside other security agencies and hunters in the area, combed possible hideouts of the criminals.

“The officer has been taken to the hospital for medical examination and treatment, and will soon be reunited with his family,” he said.

The spokesperson noted that the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Bartholomew Onyeka, had issued that directive that the perpetrators must be made to face the wrath of the law.
