Facebook has messaged some account owners that four information fields including religion, political views, address and ‘Interest in’ will be removed from users’ Facebook profile pages from December 1, 2022.

The company’s spokesman, Christopher Hughes said the reason for the change is to make the social media platform easier to navigate for users.

“As part of our efforts to make Facebook easier to navigate and use, we’re removing a handful of profile fields: Interested In, Religious Views, Political Views, and Address,” the spokesperson said, “We’re sending notifications to people who have these fields filled out, letting them know these fields will be removed. This change doesn’t affect anyone’s ability to share this information about themselves elsewhere on Facebook.”

The recent update was first noticed by tech enthusiasts and social media consultant, Matt Navarra, who posted a screenshot of the notice that was sent from Facebook to users who have these fields filled out on their profiles.

Facebook’s resolve to weed out some of this unwanted profile information may be linked to the recent massive layoff in the company.

It would be recalled that Meta had recently retrenched over Facebook staff 11,000 on November 9, 2022.

Facebook’s parent company, Meta has been silent as to why the information was removed, there is a likelihood that users were just not using the fields as concerns over privacy on social media platforms have risen in recent times.
