A 41-year-old man, identified as Ibrahim Aliu, is in the custody of the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly defiling his 12-year-old daughter.
The incident occurred in Papa Olosun, under the Yewa North Local Government Area.
Aliu was apprehended on Thursday following a complaint filed by his estranged wife, Temitope Egbebi, at the Oja Odan Divisional Police Office.
Egbebi alleged that Aliu had been sexually abusing their daughter during her visits to his home.
According to Egbebi, she discovered the abuse after taking her daughter to the State Hospital in Ilaro for treatment of a vaginal discharge as a medical examination revealed signs of sexual abuse.
In a statement by the state police spokesperson, SP Omolola Odutola confirmed the arrest on Friday.
Odutola stated that Aliu confessed to the crime during interrogation and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution.
The incident has ignited anger in the community and highlights the menace of child sexual abuse in Nigeria.
