One Samuel Gbadamosi has been remanded for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl.
The defendant was reported to have committed the crime at Obasekola Street, Owo Local Government, Ondo state.
At the court, he was arraigned on one count.
According to the police prosecutor, Augustine Omhenemhen, the defendant forcefully took advantage of one Miss Jimisola Adenegan, aged 16, when she came to collect a textbook from his (defendant’s) daughter, who is her friend.
The prosecutor said the offence contravenes Section 357 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State Nigeria, 2006.
But the defendant pleaded non-guilty, as he claimed the victim consented to the sexual intercourse.
“I did not force the girl, both of us agreed to have sex,” he said.
The prosecutor implored the Chief Magistrate to remand the defendant at the correctional facility pending further directives from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The counsel to the defendant, P.A Amuluru, prayed the court to grant the defendant mercy, giving assurance that he would present concrete evidence and reliable sureties.
In her judgement, Magistrate O.R Yakubu ordered the remand of the sexagenarian at a correctional facility in the state and thereby adjourned the case till April 27, 2023 for further hearing.
