FG, google to train 10,000 youth nationwide

The Federal Government of Nigeria and Google have teamed up to train 2,500 young creatives, with plans to expand the initiative to 10,000.

The training will be conducted through the Del-York Creative Academy, under the Creative Leap Acceleration Programme (CLAP), which aims to boost skills development, innovation, and partnerships in Nigeria’s creative industry.

Google announced the collaboration on Wednesday, highlighting the role of the National Council for Arts and Culture in executing the program.

The US-based tech giant said that the participants will receive hands-on training in areas such as music, film, animation, content creation, live production, and audio.

The initiative is part of CLAP’s goal to create jobs, diversify the economy, and strengthen Nigeria’s cultural exports.

In a statement by The Minister of Arts, Culture, and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa-Musawa, praised the partnership, saying it is in consonance with the government’s thrive to empower youth and advance the president’s Renewed Hope agenda.

She stressed that the six-week training will focus on visual storytelling, video production, and AI integration.

Some participants will also undergo a three-week intensive mentorship, ending with the creation of a visual content project.

“This initiative is about recognising and equipping the unsung heroes of our creative industries. By empowering these 2,500 professionals and eventually 10,000 across Nigeria, we are investing in the future of Africa’s cultural influence and economic prosperity.” Olumide said.
