The Nigerian Government has promised to rebuild Majia town, where about 153 lives were lost in a fuel tanker explosion on Tuesday evening.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, made this pledge during a condolence visit by a federal delegation on Thursday.
Akume said that President Tinubu was pained by the incident, citing his concern for the well-being of Nigerians.
Akume described the blast as one of the worst in the country’s history.
“The President has ordered a thorough investigation into the incident, and necessary actions will be taken. His concern for Jigawa is evident through his many interventions in the state,” Akume said.
The delegation also visited victims receiving treatment at Rashid Shekoni Hospital in Dutse and relayed the President’s condolences to the Majia community.
According to Akume, Tinubu has directed various federal agencies to assist in rebuilding the community and provide succour to the affected families.
Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq Abdulrazaq, who was part of the delegation, sympathised with the victims’ families, thereby charging citizens to avoid scooping fuel during such accidents.
The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Shehu Muhammed, confirmed that an investigation had been launched.
He assured that, following the President’s directive, the corps would receive additional resources to reduce road accidents.
Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi thanked the Federal Government for its interventions in the state.
