First lady, Oluremi Tinubu denies holding national prayer for Nigeria

First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has refuted claims that she is planning to lead a national prayer event for Nigeria’s challenges.

Reports had suggested that Mrs. Tinubu, alongside National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, would head a seven-day event titled “Seeking the Intervention of God in Nigeria’s Affairs.”

The Director-General of the National Prayer Forum, Segun Afolorunikan, allegedly announced the initiative, stating it would involve Christian and Muslim leaders praying for the country’s socio-economic and security issues.

However, in a statement on Saturday, Mrs. Tinubu’s spokesperson, Busola Kukoyi, labeled the news as “unfounded and misleading.”

The First Lady clarified that while she supports prayer for the nation, she is not organizing any national prayer event.

“Prayer should be done willingly and sincerely,” the statement read, urging the public to disregard the circulating reports and verify news involving the First Lady through official channels.
