Leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students, (NANS) has threatened to embark on a nationwide protest Monday, December 12 amid scarcity of petrol otherwise known as the Premium Motor Spirit, (PMS).

The threat was contained in press release sent to EVENTNG, which was signed by the Senate President of the Association, Comrade Attah Felix Nnalue Wednesday, December 7.

Felix, in his remark, said the suffering occasioned by fuel scarcity “has become a deliberate and conscious module by the government to punish the citizens of this great country.”

He, therefore, expressed disappointment that the Nigerian National Petroleum Cooperation Limited, (NNPCL) and Ministry of Petroleum have taken Nigerians for granted, especially the Minister of Petroleum, Timipre Sylva who according him has betrayed President Muhammadu Buhari trust on the issue of petrol shortage that has brought untold hardship on the Nigerian populace.

He, however, said the leadership of NANS under his tutelage had earlier written to relevant authorities to checkmate the downstream activities of the Ministry in order to end the continuing spike in petrol price and scarcity but unfortunately, the protracted menace still exists.

The president, however, disclosed that after due consultation with all the structures of the Students’ Union across the federation, it has resorted to embarking on a national protest on Monday, December 12 to hasten the Federal Government into finding a lasting solution to the lingering fuel shortage and spiking prices.
