One Mrs Nnaemeka Nwachukwu, a microbiologist, working with a research institute in Vom, Jos South Local Government had been apprehended by the police for dehumanizing her maid.
The late Margaret Joshua from Kebbi state reportedly ran away from the insurgency in her community before she was employed as maid by Nwachukwu.
A sourced said Nnaemeke never enrolled the child in school as agreed but rather maltreated her.
It was learnt that the deceased was coerced to sit on a bucket of hot water which caused burn injuries to her buttocks.
This heinous act allegedly led to her death on 14 November 2022.
All the medical treatments given to her was abortive.
Speaking about the development, the Plateau State Coordinator of the National Human Rights Commission, Grace Pam stated that the office has launched an investigation into the issue.
She further added that given the amount of scars and bruises on the late Margaret’s body, her guardians must have brutalized her several times.
In her words: “Our attention was called to the situation, on Monday, by a staff in the hospital, who said that an 11-year-old girl was seriously beaten and injured by her guardian, in Vom.
“The girl had scars and burns on her body. We were told that she was taken to Mandela hospital in Kaduna Vom before she was referred to Jos.
“When some of our staff met with the suspect at the Police Station in Vom where she was detained, she confessed she has been beating her and claimed the girl used to masturbate, so she was punishing her so she that could stop.
“She claimed she did not know what used to come over her because she felt bad anytime she beats the child.”
