Kwara State Government has restricted the movement of motorcycles, tricycles, commercial vehicles and heavy-duty vehicles of certains categories from plying the Ahmadu Bello Way in GRA, Ilorin, the state capital.

The directive, issued via the state’s Ministry of Works and Transport, prohibits tricycles, Keke Napep, commercial motorcycles, Okada, taxis, trucks, and heavy-duty vehicles from using the road.

According to the statement, the Kwara State Traffic Management Agency, KWARTMA, is charge with immediate enforcement of the restriction

Abdulquawiy Olododo, the state Commissioner for Works and Transport, warned that violators could face fines up to N50,000.

Ahmadu Bello Way, a recently rehabilitated route, serves as an alternative road for traffic to Tanke, Fate, and River Basin areas in Ilorin.

The ministry has begun placing restriction signs from Challenge through Ahmadu Bello Way, to deter motorists from plying the road.

Olododo emphasized that this measure aims to improve security and ease congestion, supplementing existing “No Parking” signs.

In a related development, Olododo warned traders to avoid conducting business activities on pedestrian walkways in areas such as Oja Oba, Gambari, Ita-Amodu, Adifa, Mohammed Murtala Way, Post Office, Agaka, Challenge,  and Emir’s Road and many more for safety reason.

He also cautioned against driving against traffic, stating that violators will face legal sanctions.

KWARTMA’s acting CEO, Engr. Bamidele Michael, reiterated the commitment to ensuring road safety, while Olododo encouraged the public cooperation to make roads safer for everyone.
