The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, revealed that its substations now access 90 percent of power supply, giving assurance that the national grid would soon deliver maximum capacity following a collapse on Monday evening.

TCN’s Public Affairs General Manager, Ndidi Mbah, noted that the process to fully restore the grid, which collapsed for the sixth time this year, is nearing conclusion.

Electricity has already been restored to Abuja and other major distribution centres in the country.

The grid failure happened at about 6:18 p.m. on Monday, leading blackout in different parts of the country.

Power generation dropped from 3.87 gigawatts at 5 p.m. to 3.56 GW by 6 p.m., and eventually to 0.00 GW by 7 p.m.

Electricity consumers in the Federal Capital Territory have expressed dissatisfaction over incessant grid failure.

However, the power transmission outfit reassured the public that the failure is being addressed.

The statement explained that TCN recorded a setback in the process of grid recovery on Tuesday, thus leading to a slow process.

The statement also noted that the Ibom Gas generating station remained operational during the grid collapse, continuing to supply power to areas in the South-South region, including Eket, Ekim, Uyo, and Itu.

An inquiry into the cause of the grid failure will be conducted after complete recovery of the grid.
