The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has completed the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) for the upcoming Ondo State governorship election, set for November 16, 2024. INEC announced that 2,053,061 registered voters are eligible to participate in the election.
Ondo State’s Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mrs. Oluwatoyin Babalola, make the announcement from INEC’s headquarters in Akure. She highlighted the increase in voter registration and implored voters who have not yet collected their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) from previous exercises to do so at local government offices. INEC will also set up additional centres to make the PVC collection process easier.
Babalola confirmed that a large portion of sensitive election materials had already been distributed to all 18 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in preparation for the election, which will feature 16 political parties.
“I’m pleased to announce that most of the non-sensitive election materials have been delivered to the 18 LGAs. We are coordinating with security agencies to ensure the safe storage and timely distribution of these materials ahead of the election,” she said.
She also confirmed that the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) will be used at all 3,933 polling units. The system will directly transmit results to the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV), providing transparency and real-time access to election outcomes.
Babalola urged security agencies to work with INEC to ensure a safe election environment and called on voters to remain peaceful and law-abiding throughout the election process.
