A police inspector was killed when gunmen attacked quarry workers in Ihievbe-Ogben, Owan East Local Government Area of Edo State.
The attack, which took place on Thursday, also left another police officer and an expatriate injured.
Eyewitnesses reported that the gunmen ambushed the workers as they were heading back to their camp after finishing work for the day.
A resident confirmed that the inspector died on the spot, while the injured officer and expatriate were taken to the hospital for treatment.
Edo State Police spokesperson, Moses Yamu, confirmed the attack, stating, “One of our officers was killed, and another officer and an expatriate were injured. We are investigating the incident and working with the military to track down the attackers.”
