Hoodlums kill chief, kidnap three in Kwara community

Some suspected kidnappers, on Friday, June 23 reportedly killed a local chief and cart away with three individuals in Iwo Community in Isin Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The City Gazette learnt that the assailants caused severe panic as they laid siege to a petro station at Sabaja area of the community around 9.00 pm.

During the course of deadly assault the gunmen were said to have kidnapped the manager and a security man of the station including the minister of a Christ Apostolic Church.

According to a reliable source, a stray bullet from the gunmen claimed the life of one Raphael Adewuyi, a traditional Chief in the Sabaja community of Isin Local Council.

Engr. Tunde Fadipe, the Chairman of the Transition Implementation Committee (TIC) in Isin local government, while speaking with journalists confirmed the incident.

“Three people including the manager of the Petrol station, the Security guard and a Pastor of a Church were abducted during the incident while a Chief was hit by a stray bullet in his house during the operation”, he said.

He furthered that the Police and other Security agencies are currently on the trail of the suspected criminals in a bid to rescue the three people abducted, noting that they would be brought to book.

In his reaction, the spokesman of the Kwara State Police Command, SP Okasanmi Ajayi said three people were kidnapped by the gunmen at the petrol station in Iwo community on Friday night.

“Three people were abducted at Iwo on Friday while one man was hit by stray bullet in his house. We have sent our men and the vigilante members to go after the abductors and rescue the three people, but we are yet to record success. I’m sure that the three people are going to be rescued,” Ajayi said.
