Hooligans attack soldier, firemen in Kwara

Fears as an army officer and two operatives of the Kwara State Fire Service were injured by hooligans Tuesday, December 6 in Ilorin, the state capital.

The miscreants were said to have attacked the victims during a rescue mission.

Soldiers and officials of the state fire service were on an official assignment at the K&R Filling Station, Oke Agodi, Ilorin, to quench the raging fire that wreaked serious havocs on the petrol station at about 9.30pm.

The spokesperson of the state fire service, Hassan Adekunle, said property estimated at about N21.7m was razed by the raging inferno as property salvaged from destruction by the firemen worth N48.4M.

Adekunle noted, “Yesterday, Tuesday, December 6, 2022, some hoodlums at Oke-Agodi Alfa Yahaya area of Ilorin attacked men of the Kwara State Fire Service and seriously injured two fire officers.

“One of the Nigerian Army team members was also hit in the head by the stones thrown by the hoodlums. In fact, the soldier was soaked in blood.

“Therefore, the Director, Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade Olumuyiwa expressed sadness over the incident and described the people of Agodi area as very ungrateful for not appreciating the firemen’s efforts.
