I didn’t attend Abba Gida-Gida’s Inauguration for fear Of violence – Ganduje

Immediately past Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has disclosed that he did not intentionally attend the inauguration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, popularly known as Abba Gida-Gida among his political enthusiasts due to fear that violence might break between their followers.

Ganduje, in an interview with BBC Hausa on Tuesday, May 30 dispelled insinuations that of brewing rift between him and the newly inaugurated government in the state.

He said, “Handing over can be divided into two aspects. The first is the transition of power, which involves the transfer of documents and information about the government’s operations, including completed projects, projects that were not completed, and advice for the incoming government.

“The second aspect is the inauguration. If the outgoing and incoming governments are from different political parties, it is not always necessary to attend the inauguration, as there is a risk of violence between supporters.”

When questioned if he attended Tinubu’s swearing-in ceremony to secure an appointment, Ganduje said, “I am not here for any appointments, but if I am appointed, I will not decline.

“I am optimistic about Tinubu’s presidency. We will pray for him and continue to support him because he was elected due to his good track record.”

Fielding questions on the purported political crisis between him and the new government in Kano, Ganduje revealed that the report was just a mere rumour, further noting that he has a cordial relationship with the new government.

The City Gazette gathered that the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero alongisde other traditional rulers in the state who attended the inauguration were booed.

Meanwhile, the 14th Emir of Kano, Mallam Muhammadu Lamido Sanusi also attended the occasion on the invitation of the newly inaugurated Governor.

Abba defeated Ganduje’s anointed candidate, Nasir Yusuf Gawuna in the last general election to emerged victorious.
