The Director General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, berated how disunity has torn Nigeria apart.

The former Minister of Finance, thereby, described the situation as sad.

Dr Okonjo-Iweala made this assertion on Saturday, June 24 on her official Twitter page to correct the impression that she intentionally avoided President, Bola Tinubu, during a summit in Paris, France.

The former world economist had posted photographs of some African leaders that attended the occasion including that of Senegal, Macky Sall; South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa and Zambia, Hakainde Hichilema, at the Summit, without President Tinubu.

Ardent followers of the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), in the 2023 presidential election had heaped praises on Okonjo-Iweala for identifying with Tinubu at the world meeting.

Consequently, many Nigerians including supporters of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, alleged that the WTO boss deliberately cropped Tinubu out of the photographs despite his attendance of the Summit convened by the French President, Emmanuel Macron.

To debunk the allegation, Dr Okonjo-Iweala took to her official Twitter account on Saturday, said she only posted the pictures in the order she received them from her accompanying colleagues without attaching any interior intention to the photographs.

She later displayed more pictures she took alongside President Tinubu, Nigerian businessman, Tony Elumelu and other world dignataries at the event.

Dr Okonjo-Iweala maintained that alleging her of having ulterior motive by initially posting her photographs with president Tinubu was uncalled for.

The economist advocated unity and thereby charged Nigerians against further attacks on her personality

“Nigerians please relax! Re Paris, Interesting attacks from both sides. Sadly shows the depth of polarisation in our society. I post photos in the order received by accompanying staff or colleagues. Reading more into it is unwarranted. Let’s unite to build our country not attack!”, her tweet read.
