President Muhammadu Buhari has hinted that he would retire to his ancestral home in Daura before he finally returns to Kaduna after he must have over power the president-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu on May 29 this year.
The former military Head of State, who has been running the nation since 2015, will be handing over to his political ally and party loyalist, Bola Tinubu, who was declared winner of the February 25 presidential election.
According to a press release by hisl media aide, Garba Shehu, Buhari hopes to spend some time in Katsina before eventually settling down in Kaduna.
The president made this comment on Thursday during a meeting with the Progressive Governors Forum, known as APC governors, in the State House. The APC governors, led by Governor Atiku Bagudu (the PGF chair), visited Mr Buhari to rejoice with him following the party’s triumph in the last general elections.
Bagudu appreciated Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna over his commitment to aggressive infrastructural investments in the state. This, he said would make the president feel more comfortable after retirement when he left Daura.
He also praised Governor Abdullahi Ganduje for following suit.
The president also used the opportunity to bash Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Governor Peter Obi, saying, “An important reason I congratulate Asiwaju on winning is because the opposition got support and false hope from outside and went on to create the impression that they will win, that they will defeat us. How more wrong could anyone be?”
Speaking for the APC governors, Bagudu stated that the president’s support helped the ruling party win the presidential and the majority in the National Assembly.
“Congratulations, your party won the presidency, a majority in the Senate and for being the leading party in the House of Representatives. These successes would not have happened without your support,” stated the Kebbi governor.
The governors from Kwara, Plateau, Imo, Ekiti, Kaduna, Kogi, Lagos, Cross River, Nasarawa, Jigawa, Katsina and Ogun. Others who attended the occasion included deputy governors of Kano, Gombe, Borno and Ebonyi were part of the courtesy visit.
