The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has announced that the distribution of Permanent Voter Cards, PVCs, in Ondo State will begin on Thursday, October 23, 2024.
Citizens can collect their PVCs from INEC offices in all 18 local government areas of the state. The collection will continue until Tuesday, October 29, 2024.
At a media briefing in Akure, INEC National Commissioner Sam Olumekun urged media organizations to support INEC’s efforts to overcome challenges such as voter apathy, misinformation, and logistics issues that could affect PVC collection.
He emphasized that only individuals who collect their PVCs will be eligible to vote in the November 16 election.
Collection by proxy is not allowed, and collection centers will be open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., including weekends.
Olumekun appealed to media executives to help raise public awareness about the importance of collecting PVCs and participating in the election.
Ondo Resident Electoral Commissioner Oluwatoyin Babalola also addressed the media, stressing the importance of accurate and responsible reporting during the election.
She emphasized that media outlets should follow electoral guidelines to prevent misinformation, avoid inciting tension, and ensure transparency throughout the election process.
