Iran supreme leader, Ayatollah Khamenei, on Friday, said the country’s latest missile assault against Israel as a “minimum punishment” her “astonishing crimes.”
Khamenei, in his remarks on Friday in Tehran, lauded the late Hezbollah’s leader, Hassan Nasrallah, who was assassinated by Israeli forces.
Khamenei’s comment came just three days after Iran fired about 200 missiles at Israel, in what it said was reprisal to the killing of Nasrallah.
During his sermon, Khamenei commended Nasrallah and thereby expressed his commitment to Hamas and Hezbollah, which he said provided “vital service to the entire region and the entire Islamic world”.
He maintained that Iran’s allies are ready to launch further airstrikes in their conflict against Israel, which entered a new phase after Hamas launched deadly raids into Israel almost one year ago.
Iran is the support base of Hezbollah and Hamas, as well as other armed groups within the Middle East, which have attacked Israel. They often dub themselves the “Axis of Resistance”.
