Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has denied any intention of becoming the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, refuting media reports that claimed he had assumed the position and was involved in suspending party leaders.
Fayose addressed the issue on Saturday via his X account, responding to an article published by an online platform.
He urged the public to disregard reports that failed to specify his full name, emphasizing that he should not be confused with other individuals named Fayose in Nigeria.
“I dissociate myself from media reports linking me to any self-declaration as Chairman of the PDP or the suspension of figures like former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Governors Wike, and Makinde. As of today, Ambassador Umar Damagum is the Chairman of the PDP, and I have no aspirations to take that role,” Fayose wrote.
He clarified that he is not involved in the current turmoil within the PDP and reiterated that he has no interest in holding any political office, either appointed or elective.
Meanwhile, internal conflicts within the PDP have led to suspensions of key figures. A faction of the National Working Committee, NWC, recently suspended National Legal Adviser Kamaldeen Ajibade and National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba for alleged disloyalty.
Another faction suspended Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum and National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu over alleged anti-party activities.
However, the Federal High Court in Abuja has intervened, barring the removal of Damagum as Acting National Chairman and stating that he must remain in the position until the party’s national convention scheduled for December next year.
