Kwara court sentences three students to jail for gang-rape

A Kwara State High Court sitting in Ilorin, has on Monday, July 31, 2023, condemned three students to different jail terms.

The students have connived to gang rape a 17-year-old girl.

The convicts, who are identified as Omotosho Yahaya, 23, Mustapha Ahmed, 23 and 22-year-old Mustapha Ridwan are students of a tertiary institution in the state.

The students were convicted a two-count charge of criminal conspiracy and rape of the victim, at Adangba area of Ilorin, the Kwara State capital in 2020.

On the invitation of the first defendant, Omotosho, his two friends partook in the criminal act inside his room.

In her verdict, Justice Adenike Akinpelu, pronounced five years imprisonment for rape and 2 years for criminal conspiracy.

The sentences, carrying an additional N50,000 fine, will run concurrently.
