Kwara Gov., AbdulRahman approves palliatives for widows, pensioners, students amid Naira scarcity

In an attempt to ease the ripple effects caused by the current fuel scarcity and the currency switch, the Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has directed that palliatives be given to for various vulnerable groups in the state.

Spokesperson to the governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq made this disclosure in a press release, Thursday, February 9.

Ajakaye said cash would be transferred to widows, pensioners, transporters, marketers, smallholder farmers, and other categories of beneficiaries through the Kwara State Social Investment Programme (KWASSIP) for onward execution.

The statement read, “The Governor has therefore directed KWASSIP to work out the details and deploy this modest support as soon as possible to mitigate the effects of the situation,” according to a statement.

“The Governor has also directed the deployment of free buses along specific routes used by students and staff of tertiary institutions in the capital city where the effects of the fuel scarcity have been most pronounced. Further details of this palliative will be released by relevant government departments/committees. The free bus rides for the students will begin on Monday, February 13, 2023.”
