Following the increment in the tuition fees of non indigene students of Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin the leadership of the Students’ Union Government of the institution has released a press statement directing both returning and newly admitted students to suspend payment of tuition fees until the proposed adjustment is effected by the management.
This directive was contained in a press statement jointly signed by Ishola Abdulsalam, SUG President; Adeyemi Ekundayo Benjamin, Gen.Secretary; Ogundeji Jamiu Babatunde, SUG SPEAKER and Comrade Ameen Solihu Owolabi on Tuesday, November 1, 2022.
According to the union, the agreement reached between it and the management was that the portal should be opened for indigene students whose tuition fees are not currently increased to commence payment of school fees while their non indigene counterparts should hold on until the proposed adjustment is effected by the institution.
The union leadership while describing the management’s action as surprising as well enjoined the students to remain calm and eschew violence, noting that talks are ongoing to ensure that favourable agreements are reached at the end the ongoing deliberation.
The student representatives on behalf of management of the institution, however, apologized to the students for their decision in the face current economic hardship, further seeking maximum cooperation from the students throughout the negotiation stint.
