Kwara State Polytechnic Rector, Dr. Abdul Jimoh Muhammed has eulogised OPay Digital Services for its scholarship initiative in the institution.
The Rector said this on Wednesday during a meeting with an OPay delegation who visited the institution to finalise plans on the proposed partnership.
Dr. Abdul Jimoh noted that the initiative would help in advancing educational access and equity, particularly for students with financial constraints.
The rector further maintained that the decision to select Kwara State Polytechnic as one of ten beneficiary institutions acknowledges institution’s role in fostering academic excellence.
He, however, urged the financial giant to extend its kind gestures to include investments in infrastructures such as hostels, classrooms, and information and communication technology (ICT) facilities, which would further enhance the learning environment.
He also called for collaboration in agricultural initiatives, which he believes would support the institution’s drive for food sufficiency while providing students with practical learning opportunities.
In his comments, Itoro Udo, OPay Digital Services Representative, disclosed that the initiative is geared towards fostering career development, promoting inclusiveness, and providing financial succour to qualified students.
He revealed that the scholarship would be open to all undergraduate students of Kwara State Polytechnic who maintain active OPay accounts, with each beneficiary receiving ₦300,000 per academic session.
He concluded that at least 20 students would be sponsored annually for the next 10 years, stressing OPay’s commitment to education and youth empowerment.
