Management of the Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, announced that it has withheld the Higher National Diploma, HND, Certificate of one AbdulRasheed Zubair Olatunji of the Public Administration Department of the institution for allegedly belonging in a secret cult.

This state-funded institution made this disclosure in a press release signed by the Deputy Registrar, Registrar’s Office, Mr. Olayemi Olatomi, on Monday, June 5 and made available to journalists in Ilorin, the state capital.

The release revealed that the school authority took such punitive action following report of the Polytechnic’s Students’ Disciplinary Committee.

The management said AbdulRasheed’s involvement in cultism has flouted the polytechnic’s founding principle that every student must not be found wanting in the area character and learning in his bid to earn the certificate of the institution.

The mobilisation of AbdulRasheed to the mandatory National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, was also put on hold, the statement further disclosed.

“The Authority of the Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, has approved the immediate withdrawal of Higher National Diploma Certificate of AbdulRasheed Zubair Olatunji of Public Administration Department of the institution for his involvement in cultism contrary to the matriculation oath he sworn to.

“A statement issued and signed by the Deputy Registrar, Registrar’s Office, Mr. Olayemi Olatomi and made available to the Information Division, disclosed that the decision was based on the report of the Polytechnic’s Students’ Disciplinary Committee.

“According to the statement, AbdulRasheed’s involvement in cultism is a pointer to the fact that he is not worthy in character and learning to earn the certificate of the institution.

“It also added that mobilisation of AbdulRasheed to the mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has been put on hold.”

When contacted by The City Gazette, the institution Public Relations Officer, Halimah Garba confirmed the development, further noting that the institution in collaboration with the Oke-Oyi Division of the Nigerian Police Force deal with any student displaying criminal tendencies.
