KWASU VC, Prof Akanbi buried amid tears

It was a disheartening moment as personalities from breadth and length of Ilorin and beyond gathered to observe the Janazah prayer for the late Vice Chancellor of Kwara State University, Prof Muhammed Mustapha Akanbi who died in Lagos State, Sunday, November 20, 2022.

The funeral rite took place at the Justice Mustapha Akanbi’s Library, GRA, Ilorin at at about 5pm, Monday, November 21 with the Chief Imam of Ilorin, Sheikh Muhammad Solihu Bashir leading the prayer.

Afterwards, the remains of the deceased was transferred to his personal residence at Tanke for immediate interment.

In attendance at the Janazah prayer, were Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq; Imam Gambari, Sheikh Abdulazeez Sulyman, Secretary to the state Government Prof. Mamman Saba Jibril; and Balogun Alanamu Dr. Usman Abubakar Jos; CEO of Royal FM Gbenga Adebayo.

Others include Amb. Yahya Seriki; Yinka Aluko; Prof. Shuaib Oba, Prof. Abdulganiyu Ambali and other well-meaning Nigerians.

The chief Imam of Ilorin while described the late scholar as a man of enviable virtues and international standing.

The professor of Business Law was appointed the second substantive Vice Chancellor of Kwara State University, Malete on April 1, 2020 by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
