Lagos State Government has launched its Cultural Mission Initiative, aiming to globally showcase Lagos’s rich cultural heritage and foster international partnerships.

This initiative seeks to enhance tourism in Lagos and promote trade between tourists and locals.

According to Idris Aregbe, Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Tourism, Arts, and Culture, the vision is to position Lagos as Africa’s cultural capital through joint festivals, educational exchanges, and tourism promotions.

Aregbe made these remarks at the launch of the Lagos Cultural Mission Movement held Thursday at the Nike Arts Gallery, Lekki.

Themed “Advancing the Essence of Culture,” the event attracted representatives from over 20 embassies and featured exhibitions, cultural performances, and traditional cuisines.

Emphasizing the mission’s goal to establish Lagos as a cultural, arts, and tourism hub, Aregbe highlighted that the initiative aims to build diplomatic connections globally.

The initiative will also include a year-round schedule of events fostering continuous learning, collaboration, and partnerships worldwide.

“We are advancing international collaboration and cultural diplomacy between Lagos and other countries. This mission will create long-lasting partnerships that benefit Lagos and promote mutual respect and cooperation,” Aregbe stated.

Aregbe further noted that the initiative would provide the youth with opportunities to learn from elders and preserve Lagos’s cultural heritage.

“We aim to share our story, uphold our values, and support youth in their pursuit of contributing to Lagos,” he added.

Nike Okundaye-Davies, founder of Nike Arts Gallery, also urged the Interior Ministry to streamline visa processes for tourists, emphasizing that easier entry would attract more visitors to Nigeria.

“Simplifying visas for investors is essential,” she remarked.
