Madein becomes Nigeria’s first female AGF

President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday, May 19 appointed Oluwatoyin Sakirat Madein as the first female Accountant General of the Federation, AGF,

With Buhari’s approval, Sakirat Madein has become the first female to be appointed as AGF in substantive capacity.

Sakirat’s appointment was contained in a circular dated Friday, May 19, 2023 which was signed by the spokesman of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mohammed Abdullahi Ahmed.

The content of the circular which was signed on behalf of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Dr. Folasade Yemi Esan (CFR), revealed that Madein’s appointment was ratified by President Buhari.

The City Gazette gathered that Madein’s appointment a as AGF followed a rigorous selection process to fill the existing vacancy.

It was further reported that the appointment was dated Thursday, May 18, 2023 as the new appointee was asked to assume office with immediate effect.

Her appointment has also been announced in a statement signed by the President’s spokesman, Mohammed Ahmed.

“President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Dr. (Mrs) Oluwatoyin Sakirat Madein as the substantive Accountant-General of the Federation following the successful conduct of a selection process to fill the existing vacancy,” Ahmed stated.

“The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation. Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan, CFR made this known today, Friday 19 May 2023, in Abuja, adding that the appointment is with effect from Thursday, May 18, 2023.

The financial expert was born on the 7th of March, 1965 in Iperu Remo Ikenne Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The Ogun-born civil servant has worked as the Director of Finance and Accounts in the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, OHCSF.

Madein currently holds a Ph.D. in Management Finance from Walden University, Minnesota, USA.

She was shortlisted alongside 19 other candidates for the office of the AGF back in January of this year.
