A 23-year-old woman, Precious Yusuf, was found dead along DLA Road in Asaba, Delta State, after reportedly visiting a male friend she met with on a dating site, iHappy.
Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, confirmed in a statement on Saturday that Precious’s body was discovered on Thursday along the road after police were informed about the incident.
Police recovered the corps and launched a preliminary investigation to confirm her identity.
Edafe revealed that Precious had told a friend on Tuesday that she would be visiting a man she’d met on the dating platform.
On Wednesday, she called her friend to say she was on her way home, but that was her last contact before her body was found the next day.
Edafe stated, “Preliminary investigations revealed that on October 22, 2024, she told her friend she was meeting a man she met on iHappy. She left her house on October 22 to meet him at Coka.
On October 23, around 07:30 hours, she called her friend, saying she was on her way home, but unfortunately, this was her last communication.”
He added that the body has been taken to a morgue for an autopsy, and a full investigation is ongoing.
Edafe also urged young women to exercise caution when interacting with people they meet online.
“The Commissioner of Police, Delta State, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, assures the public, especially the deceased’s family, of a thorough investigation and justice in this case.
He further advises young women to be cautious when engaging with individuals met on social media platforms,” Edafe concluded.
In a related case, on August 20, 2024, a 21-year-old student from Kwara State College of Health Technology, Mojisola Awesu, was found dead in Ilorin after reportedly being hired to pose as a girlfriend for a party.
Her body was found at a refuse site in the Aleniboro area, prompting an investigation by Kwara police.
