Man loses life in Lagos train crash

A 50- year-old man identified as Emmanuel was crushed to death during train crash near Arena Shopping Mall in Oshodi.

The incident was reported by Emmanuel’s young sister, noting she received a call around 9 a.m., informing her that her older brother was involved in a fatal accident.

The spokesman of Lagos Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, in a press release, stated that the Mosafejo Division of the Command was informed of the accident around 1:33 p.m., and added that the police responded by sending a team of detectives to the scene.

“The scene was visited and photographed by a team of detectives,” Hundeyin said, adding, “The corpse was evacuated to a public morgue for autopsy.”

He furthered stressed that the case had been handed over to the Railway Police Command in Ebute Metta for further investigation into the incident.

The circumstances that led to the accident remain unclear, as a similar incident was reported in August, when a male adult was crushed to death by a moving train in the Mushin area of the state. But it hasn’t been established if incidents are connected.

The incident was stated to have happened around 6 pm. on the unfortunate day as the deceased was walking along the Cappa Railway tracks.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, in a statement signed by its spokesman, Nosa Okunbor, said the victim was found dead at the scene with severe injuries sustained from the collision.

Additionally, in a signed statement by the spokesman of The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Nosa Okunbor said that the deceased was discovered death at the scene with grievous injuries from the collision.

Okunbor also said that the victim was pronounced dead at the scene due to the injury sustained in the crash.
