Ahead of the May 29 inauguration, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has dissolved his cabinet.

The governor who just won his second term during the March 18 general election, made the disclosure on Tuesday, also terminated the appointment of all other political office holders in the state.

While announcing the termination of the appointment of his aides, the Governor advised them to transfer government properties in their possession to the appropriate authorities with immediate effect.

Makinde made the announcement in a press release signed by his Chief of Staff, Segun Ogunwuyi.

He further stressed that all political office holders are expected to formally hand over and submit government properties in their custody to the most senior officers in their various ministries, departments and agencies.

The City Gazette reports that Makinde came to power in May 2019.

The statement said, “Governor Seyi Makinde to inform you of the dissolution of the Oyo State Executive Council and the termination of the appointment of all political officeholders with effect from today, Tuesday, May 23, 2023.

“All political officeholders are required to officially hand over and submit all government properties in their possession to the most senior civil servant in their respective Ministries, Departments and Agencies.”

The Governor defeated Senator Teslim Folarin of the All Progressives Congress, APC, to return as Governor-elect in the last general election.

Makinde who is in the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, forged an alliance with the presidential candidate candidate of the APC, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the February 25 presidential poll, following his disagreement with the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar and National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu over failure of the party to zone its presidential ticket to the southern region of the country.

The Governor, alongside other five aggrieved Governors of the PDP demanded resignation of Ayu, claiming it would amount to injustice if the party’s presidential candidate and National Chairman were from the same region.
