The Defence Headquarters said the Nigerian troops have killed a notorious terrorist leader, Mai Hijabi, during a shootout in Jigawa State this week.
This is part of ongoing efforts to neutralise terrorist groups in Northern of the country
While briefing pressmen, Maj. Gen. Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, revealed that 165 terrorists were killed, 238 suspects arrested, and 188 kidnapped victims rescued during the week.
Buba stated, “Our operations have significantly reduced the combat capabilities of these terror groups. One example is the elimination of the notorious terrorist commander, Mai Hijabi, in Jigawa State.”
Additionally, the military arrested 35 suspected oil thieves in the South-South region, preventing oil theft valued at over N688 million. They also destroyed illegal oil sites and recovered 789,200 liters of stolen crude oil and 64,950 liters of illegally refined diesel.
Buba furthered that soldiers seized 153 weapons, including 81 AK-47 rifles, and over 2,000 rounds of ammunition, along with other items such as vehicles, motorcycles, and mobile phones.
