Officers of the Nigerian Navy in Delta State on Friday were reported to have physically assaulted a police sergeant identified as Kingsley at the Enerhen Divisional Police Station in Uvwie Local Government Area.
According to an eyewitness, the incident erupted as continuous gunshots forced owners of commercial shops abandoned their shops for safety while residents of the area fled home.
It was gathered that a newly commissioned Naval operative at NNS Delta in Warri allegedly alongside led his colleagues stormed the police station to set free a fellow officer earlier arrested by policemen.
Although, normalcy has since been restored in the area.
NNS Delta, Warri, Base Operations Officer, Navy Commander Samuel Musa, has yet to make any official statement regarding the occurrence.
Similarly, policemen at the station maintained a tight lip on the incident.
It was, however, reported that the naval Officers involved in the alleged invasion of the police station and battery of the police sergeant have been arrested while investigation into the issue is ongoing.
