Ilorin based University, Muhammad Kamaldeen University, MKU, held its inaugural matriculation and investiture ceremony.
At least 146 students across different departments participated in the matriculation held on 11th May, 2024, in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
The institution also appointed the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu Gambari and former Chairman, Federal Character Commission, Professor AbdulRahim Shuaib Oba as its pioneer Chancellor and Pro Chancellor respectively.
Prof. Oba who is a former Vice Chancellor of University of Ilorin also doubles as the Chairman of MKU Governing Council.
Speaking after the event, the University’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Rasheed Gbenga Jimoh, said MKU was established to build the country’s future leaders who can compete at the international levels.
He also appreciated the unwavering contributions of Professor Oba, Abubakar Bukola Saraki, Emir of Ilorin, and other notable personalities to the growth of the institution.
Prof Jimoh stressed that MKU decided to use an open field for its matriculation because the university does not have its own auditorium, thereby appealing to philanthropists to donate auditorium to the institution.
The occasion was graced by great personalities within and outside the state.
The visitors included: Ola-olu Ali, Khalifatul Adabiyeen Shaykh Abdul Quodri Muhammad Kamaldeen, the Commissioners for Tertiary Education; and Education and Human Capital Development, Dr Mrs Mary Arinde and Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo-Kawu respectively.
