President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Joe Ajaero, on Friday, narrated his ordeal in the hand of the Nigerian police.
The union leader said he was apprehended in Owerri by the Police and was handed over to miscreants who aggressively battered him.
He explained that the gangsters who numbered seven dragged him and pounced on him mercilessly like a criminal.
While speaking with newsmen in Abuja, the NLC president revealed that the NLC apprised all the security agencies before embarking on a protest on November I.
According to Ajaero, workers who were present at the venue of the protest on that day around 7 am were also attacked by the thugs with their phones confiscated.
He maintained that he stormed the venue around 9 am. after receiving the news of physical assault on workers, stressing that the police arrested him and handed him over to thugs.
He said: “I can’t explain the beating I received. They tied my hands and dragged me on the floor like a common criminal.”
The NLC President denied the allegation by the Imo State government that he is a card-carrying member of the Labour Party.
“I am not a card-carrying member of any political party as alleged,” he said.
