Anambra State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has arrested five individuals posing as illegal private security guards and recovered three pump-action guns.

The State Commandant of NSCDC, Maku Olatunde, made the announcement in Awka while presenting the suspects. According to a statement signed by the Superintendent of Corps and Head of Media, Okadigbo Edwin, the suspects were apprehended on Thursday at an unauthorized roadblock in Nteje, Oyi Local Government Area, where they were extorting money from motorists and causing disruption.

Olatunde explained that the arrests were part of the Corps’ efforts to eliminate impersonators and criminal elements who disguise as private security guards to commit crimes. The suspects, identified as Ekene Erigaka (27, from Imo State), Emeka Eze (28, from Anambra State), Ugoma Prosper (20, from Ihiala, Anambra State), Obiuto Eze (42, from Abia State), and Victor Nnadi (34, from Ihiala, Anambra State), were found wearing black T-shirts with “AVG Special Squad” written on them.

The operation followed credible intelligence, which led NSCDC operatives, in collaboration with the Nteje Vigilante Group, to arrest the suspects.

The Commandant stressed the Corps’ commitment to ridding the state of crime and urged the public to report any suspicious activities involving private security outfits.

Olatunde warned that unlicensed security operations would not be tolerated, and violators would face legal consequences.
